Aqaba in Jordan has built its reputation on boat trips out to nearby coves and boat trips out to nearby coves — the kind of place that rewards slowing down rather than rushing between sights. Red Sea diving within reach of Petra and Wadi Rum.
Flights land at AQJ airport, and the pace on the ground is generally easygoing — expect the day to be built around the beach, with everything else fitted in around it. Aqaba is well suited to both a short week away and a longer, slower two-week stay.
